Listen Local Acoustic Alliance Show at Brick by Brick

March 9th, 2009

Cathryn Beeks, with Listen Local puts on a show now and again called the Acoustic Alliance.  It works like this; a set of four players take the stage and play any three songs they want, in the round.  So the first person goes, then the next and the next, until everyone has played one song, then it repeats, three times.  Interesting concept and it seems to really work.

From L to R: John Katchur, Chad Farran, Matt Haeck and Matt Molarius

I got there for most of the second set with my intentions set on seeing the closers: Matt Haeck, John Katchur, Chad Farran and Matt Molarius. These guys are all terrific players and accomplished songwriters.
I can remember seeing John Katchur playing similar shows in the mid-’90’s.  He was a terrific player then, and, from his two instrumental pieces he played, he hasn’t lost a step.
Chad Farran (uber-talented drummer of Superunloader) was terrific, nylon strings, mouth-trumpet and all.
Matt Molarius is the singer of Transfer.  If you haven’t yet, get on their page and listen to ‘the waltz’.  It plays automatically from their site and I’m glad they haven’t changed this as their opening music in a while.  It’s a great song.  Do it…now…click there!
Matt Haeck was a new face to me, and a very talented songwriter.  I’ll definitely look him up in the future.
All around, a great night of acoustic music and good vibes in the room.  Hats off to Cathryn for making this sort of thing happen in SD.
